Intro to Wazer water jet cutting (23 Sep 2026)

The Wazer uses high-pressure water and garnet abrasive to cut almost anything. It is an amazing tool that is also complicated and finicky. In this 2-part class (both mandatory) you will first learn how to use the Wazer to cut, then have a guided first cut of your own. This is an advanced class and has several pre-requisites to prevent massive downtime and maintenance cost that is common with new users' first cuts. However, once you have learned to operate the machine properly, you can cut glass, tile, stone, stainless steel, almost any plastic, copper, foam, carbon fiber and the list goes on.

To be invited to the class, Use Slack to DM Kim Harms your confirmation that you will attend both classes, a list of MakerLab CNC machines that you are already trained and comfortable using, and a simple 3"x3" design to cut in the second class. You will then be sent pre-class homework. Once you have confirmed that you have completed it, you will be invited to the class or added to the waitlist if the class is already full. NOTE: there may already be people on the waitlist from before.

Intro to 3D Printing (23 Sep 2026)

Who doesn't love taking a 3D model and creating an actual, real world object out of it? In this class we'll cover how to slice an existing 3D model to get it ready to be printed out, as well as common tips and tricks, material considerations, and basic machine setup and troubleshooting - all to help you take a 3D file and convert it into a tangible physical object.

*This is a two session class. Part One covers Materials & Software, followed by Machine Setup, Use, and Troubleshooting in Part Two. If we ever have a class full of experienced users we may shorten that class to one session covering everything, but for the most part expect it to be two sessions.*

**It's encouraged to browse a few 3D file repository sites such as thingiverse, yeggi, printables, etc. before coming in to find a file you might be interested in printing. Printing complexity can vary from file to file, so it's good to have a few files in mind in case one doesn't work out.**
